As a new academic year begins at Northern College, so we say goodbye and welcome. At our annual college service on 8th September, we prayed for eight of our students as we sent them on their way to a variety of ministries: John Grundy, Andrew Mudharara, Barnabas Shin and Jenny Travis are already, or about to be, ordained and inducted as URC Ministers of Word and Sacrament (MWS);  Claire Maxwell is to be inducted as a MWS in Pioneer Ministry Development for the Moravian Church; Chris Watson is ordained and inducted into non-stipendiary ministry; Maria Lee and Jo Patterson are taking up posts as Church Related Community Workers.

We also greeted and prayed for six students who make up a new cohort: Jenny Horton (MWS, FT), Kate Hunt (MWS, FT), Nicola Robinson (MWS, FT), Carol Sutcliffe (MWS, PT), Fliss Tunnard (CRCW) and Susan Quildan-Foreman (Moravian Church, MWS, PT).

And we said farewell to the Revd David Salsbury, our preacher for the service, who is our current President of the Board of Governors. This was one of his last engagements because he is just about to begin a new role as the URC’s national Stepwise Programme Manager. So, on the one hand, we will miss his friendship, experience and the contribution he has made to the Governing Body. On the other, congratulations! Go well.
